The ants

1.Leiningen Versus the Ants

 (Ed. Sara Constantakis)

The ants number in the millions or even billions. They form a highly disciplined army that collectively is able to determine the most efficient way

of reaching its goal. They are capable of killing any creature, including humans, that stands in their path. They first attack the eyes, making the victim blind. The District Commissioner tells Leiningen that the ants will “eat a full-grown buffalo to the bones.” The ants are also presented as if they possess qualities that make them more than insects. It is almost as if they possess human attributes. Leiningen and his men “began to stir with the unpleasant suspicion that inside every single one of those insects dwelt a thought. And that thought was: Ditch or no ditch, we'll get to your flesh!” The ants gaze thoughtfully at the gasoline; not satisfied with occupying the plantation, they exhibit greed and are eager to get at the men and the horses.

2.The Insect Play

(Ed. Elizabeth Thomason)

Chief Engineer

The chief engineer is an ant who appears primarily in Act III. He runs the Ant Realm for the mysterious “she,” receiving information from the inventor and the messenger and acting on it. It is the chief engineer who answers the tramp’s questions about the operation and tries to put him to work. The chief engineer directs the operation against the yellowants, the Ant Realm’s last enemy. He is power hungry, adapting his words to fit the situation and to his benefit. The chief engineer appoints himself dictator and emperor when war breaks out between his ants and the yellow ants. While he tries to win without mercy to his enemy or his men, he fails. The chief engineer only thinks in terms of work, control, and victory: nothing else matters.

The ants like army, each of ant has their own work, they never confused about the work. For example, the chief engineer of ant just control the work of other ants, they don't need to do that just distribute the work.In addition, the ants always  working together, they can move any food if they want, even elephant's bone. So they have a strong body although they looks really tiny. The number of the ants determined that they can destroy any thing. Fortunately, most ants lived underground,so that in generally they can't effect the human's live.
